World Book Day 2023
World Book Day is an important day in most school’s calendars, and our playworkers here at Fiesta Sports Coaching Ltd made sure it was a magical day while your children were with us too! Lots of children dressed up, and they looked absolutely amazing in their costumes. Likewise, many of our staff took the opportunity to dress-up, we had a Snow White, a Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, and Wally from Where’s Wally? Our staff greatly enjoyed the opportunity to get creative and engage with the day. It really was a most wonderful day for everyone involved.
Our interest in reading is embedded in the service we provide during wraparound care, for example we always like to finish our morning wraparound care with a story, as we believe it settles the children we look after and gets them ready for a day of school. It is a soothing, engaging and entertaining activity that lots of the children we care for seem to enjoy, there’s great excitement in choosing a new book each day, or even in continuing a book the next day. This week however, given the World Book Day celebrations, we’ve discussed with children what stories they like best, whether they prefer fiction or non-fiction, and why. It’s been thoroughly engaging learning more about the children’s interests and who their favourite authors are; it’s wonderful to be able to talk to children about books, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch them develop their reasoning and explanation skills.
Reading is fundamentally a very useful tool when it comes to learning anything, whether its discovery of history, of the world, or anything; reading is one way through which we learn, and lots of our staff encourage students to read as often as they’d like to. We even have lots of books for the children to read, at all our provisions there is a quiet little reading area complete with comfy cushions for the children to settle down with a good book.
We want to say a huge thank you and well done to the children who participated in World Book Day and offer our support and encouragement to keep the children reading day after day. And we also want to thank our lovely staff for engaging with the day and joining it, World Book Day 2023 was very special indeed.
